No Mercy Extreme Fighting and
 Rocky Mountain Bad Boyz present:
Clash of the Titans 7
Written by J.R. Gordon

No Mercy Extreme Fighting and the Rocky Mountain Bad Boyz joined forces March 13, 2010 at the Island Grove exhibition hall for the seventh Clash of the Titans show.  The venue was filled to capacity for a show that showcased ten MMA bouts including three titles and two professional bouts including one women's match.

Main event: Ian Stonehouse vs Alfredo Corona in a professional bout.  The fighters immediately engaged in the clinch where each was able to land solid strikes.  Stonehouse got a big double leg takedown into side control but from the bottom Corona was able to get full guard.  On the mat Stonehouse worked all round to land GNP and improve his position while Corona attacked nonstop with submission attempts.  Round two again had the fighters exchanging strikes while clinched before Stonehouse got a takedown.  On the mat Corona nearly got back to standing, but Stonehouse pulled him back to the mat and worked GNP from inside the guard of Corona.  Off of his back Corona defended the strikes and stayed committed to his submission attack until he was able to set in the fight winning armbar at 2:23 of round two.

Bout ten: Lacy Schuckman vs Avery Vilche in a professional bout.  Round one was full of back and forth action with Schuckman being more committed to striking while Vilche worked her grappling.  Vilche was able to take standing back control three times, but Schuckman always worked out of danger and took standing back control one time as well.  When the fight hit the mat Schuckman spent the majority of the time on top working a solid GNP attack while Vilche showed a dangerous guard and constantly looked for submissions and sweeps.  Round two was again nonstop action with Schuckman landing strikes while standing that staggered Vilche.  Twice the fight went to the ground and Vilche worked for submissions until Schuckman escaped and invited Vilche back to standing.  At the end of regulation the judge's cards had the fight as a draw so it went into a three minute overtime round.  Schuckman pressed forward early with strong punches before Vilche pulled guard.  Schuckman worked some more GNP before standing and letting Vilche back to her feet.  Vilche worked into the clinch and landed a series of knee strikes to the face and head of Schuckman that had her hurt.  Schuckman jumped to standing back control and Vilche fell to the ground looking for submissions but Schuckman rolled into half mount and worked GNP to end the round.  The judges again gave their scores and the winner by unanimous decision was Lacey Schuckman.

The rest of the fights were in the amateur division.

Michael Martinez vs  Valetine Marquez for the Clash of the Titans 170 lb. title.  The fighters exchanged strikes until Marquez trapped a kick, landed a punch then got a takedown into back control.  From the back Marquez worked a long flurry of GNP until Martinez worked his way back to standing.  Martinez then tried for a takedown but Marquez controlled the fall and ended in mount.  From there Marquez set in the title winning guillotine choke to end the bout at 2:23 of round one.

Matt Manzanarez vs Brendon Downing for the Clash of the Titans 135 lb. title.  The fighters came out exchanging strong punches with each able to land well and hurt the other.  Off of the clinch Manzanarez pulled guard and quickly set in an armbar that gave him the title winning tapout victory at 1:22 of round one.

Nick Meyer vs Gilbert Smith for the Clash of the Titans 185 lb. title.  Smith trapped a kick to get an early takedown and off of his back Meyer threatened with an armbar.  Smith escaped the submission and  in a scramble he transitioned to back control to set up the title winning RNC at 1:22 of round one.

Anthony Alirez vs Miguel Garcia.  Both fighters came to the middle of the cage and stood toe-to-toe to exchange punches until Alirez initiated the clinch and pushed Garcia into the cage.  Alirez then flurried with punches until Garcia dropped to his knees and the referee stopped the bout giving Alirez the TKO win at :48 of round one.

Marcus Edwards vs Aarron Gardner.  Edwards immediately closed the distance with strikes in order to set up a head toss takedown.  On the mat Edwards used his GNP to set up a transition to back control. Edwards then got a body triangle and used more GNP that Gardner defended well, but finally Edwards transitioned to an RNC for the win at 1:16 of round one.

Adam Vigil vs Chad Romero.  The fight quickly went to the ground and Vigil worked GNP from the top while Romero was active with submission attempts.  The action slowed and the referee stood the fighters.  Romero worked for a takedown that Vigil defended with a whizzer and the round ended with both fighters on their knees trying to attain a dominant position.  Round two started with Romero using a solid right hook to close the distance and get a takedown.  Vigil got back to standing but Romero jumped to back control.  Vigil let the fight go to the mat and once there Romero  sunk in the hooks and set in a RNC for the win at :39 of round two.

John Scott vs Kenneth Jeffries.  Scott got a takedown but Jeffries worked back to standing.  Scott again worked for a takedown but  Jeffries landed in half mount, transitioned to full mount and worked GNP until Scott got a sweep and worked his own GNP to end the round.  Round two started with Jeffries slipping while throwing a head kick and Scott closing in and working GNP from inside the guard of Jeffries.  Jeffries got a sweep to work GNP until the action slowed and the referee stood the fighters and they circled until the round ended.  Round three had both circling looking to strike until they clinched where Jeffries landed good strikes and Scott got a takedown to end the round.  The judge's scorecards determined the winner and it was an unanimous decision win for Kenneth Jeffries.

Sir Greg Salonis vs Tito Solis.  Off of an early clinch Salonis got a takedown but Solis scored an immediate sweep.  Both fighters then worked to improve their position  and after securing back control Solis flattened Salonis and sunk in the RNC for the submission victory at 2:30 of round one.

"Of the night" moments:

Slam of the night goes to Ian Stonehouse for his textbook double leg slam.

KO/TKO of the night goes to Anthony Alirez for his fight ending flurry of punches that got him the TKO win.

Chin(s) of the night go to Lacey Schuckman for withstanding the knees to the head from her opponent.  Also to Avery Vilche for constantly attacking despite the barrage of punches and elbows that her opponent landed.

GNP of the night goes to Valentine Marquez for his flurry of strikes from back control that allowed him to set in the RNC.

Submission of the night goes to Alfredo Corona for his commitment to the submission game that got him the win by way of armbar.

Fight of the night goes to Lacey Schuckman and  Avery Vilche.  In this bout both combatants worked nonstop with each landing strikes that visibly hurt the other as well as the great technical grappling of Vilche that was defended just as well with escapes and positional control by Schuckman.  The fight was so close it had to go to an overtime round and even then the judges still had to decide a winner as each was able to withstand as much as they gave.
